Organizations started by the Rio Grande Valley Partnership, which now exist as their own entities, administered independently:

Empowerment Zone
Awarded a $40 million grant, one of only nine in the nation, in December 1994 by President Clinton Demonstrates how public and private partnerships can create jobs and improve the quality of life in impoverished areas

Rio Grande Valley Sugar Growers Co-op
Secured a sugar quota and in the 1970s built a $28 million sugar mill; The industry remains one of the area’s largest employers

Texas Citrus Mutual
Received its own charter in 1958; As an organization for growers, it continues to serve the industry from its Mission headquarters

Valley Proud Environmental Council
Improves and protects the Valley environment; Plants trees and coordinates recycling programs
